Who Can Join?

Any person who served or is currently serving in the Armed Forces (including Nation Guard and Reserves) of the United States of America at any time after September 15, 1940, is eligible for regular membership in AMVETS, provided such service, when terminated by discharge or release is by honorable discharge, honorable separation or general discharge under honorable conditions.

Welcome to Alabama American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 23

Alabama AMVETS Post 23 is located in Opp, Alabama.  Post 23 serves Veterans in Covington, Coffee, Crenshaw, and Geneva County areas, including the communities of Andalusia, Brantley, Dozier, Elba, Enterprise, Florala, Kinston, Opp, River Falls, Samson, Straughn and all surrounding areas. As the ONLY AMVETS in South Alabama, we welcome ALL Veterans and their family members.

The Service Center is open six (6) days a week, come on by and visit us

Our meetings are  on the Second Thursday of the Month at the AMVETS Service Center on 203 MLK Dr. in Opp at 7:00 PM.  Meetings are open to the public.

Rider Rendezvous (R/V) on  Friday Mornings Meet at AMVETS Service Center at 8 AM for coffee, kickstands up at 8:30 AM.  Even if you don't ride come on out and have a cup of coffee with the group.

Our Five General Rules:

  • No Smoking in facilities
  • No Alcohol - Period
  • We do not discuss Religion or Politics
  • No Profanity
  • Focus on Comradery

Vietnam Veterans Day Picnic

Saturday March 25th We are hosting our 3rd Annual Vietnam Veterans Day event.  This year it is at the Opp AMVETS Service Center on 203 MLK Dr., Opp, AL.  It will start around 12PM and run until.  All veterans and there families members are invited to attend.  Vietnam Veterans are the guests of Honor and the State President of the Vietnam Veterans Association is the guest speaker.  The event is free and you do not have to be an AMVETS member to attend.  This is and Official registered event with the DoD Vietnam War Commemorative as Post 23 is a partner.  Call us or stop by for more information
